On 12 November 2015, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov met with Minister of International Relations and Cooperation of the Republic of South Africa Maite Nkoana-Mashabane who arrived in Moscow to co-chair the 13th Session of the Russia-South Africa Joint Intergovernmental Committee on Trade and Economic Cooperation (ITEC).

During the talks, the Sides in detail discussed topical issues of further strengthening cooperation between Russia and South Africa in key areas of strategic partnership including energy sector and extraction of mineral resources. The Ministers held an in-depth exchange of opinions on global and regional agenda topics of mutual interest including fighting international terrorism in Syria, Iraq and the Middle East region overall as well as settlement of military-political conflicts in Africa. Having stated the similarity and proximity of the positions of the two countries on the aforementioned issues, the Ministers reaffirmed mutual readiness to deepen constructive Russian-South African dialogue in the interests of enhancing coordination within the UN, BRICS, G20 and other multilateral formats.
