On March 20, the second round of presidential elections was held in the Republic of Niger. According to the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI), the incumbent head of state Mahamadou Issoufou won the election by an absolute majority of votes.

International election monitors from the African Union, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the International Organisation of La Francophonie said the people were able to vote peacefully and without any serious violations. Members of the opposition decided not to run in the second election round.

We expect that Nigerien society will continue to move along the road of stable and democratic development.
