Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova’s comment on Mali terrorist attack

M Zakharova2

On November 20, a group of armed people attacked the Radisson hotel in central Bamako, the main international hotel in the capital of Mali. The Russian Embassy in Mali reports that Russian citizens working for Volga-Dnepr Airlines were taken hostage together with numerous other foreign citizens. Mali special forces stormed the hotel in order to neutralise the attackers and released over 100 people, including six Russian citizens. In all, six Russian citizens and 13 other foreign citizens were executed by the militants at the hotel’s restaurant during the first minutes of the terrorist attack.

The Russian Embassy in Mali has opened a hotline phone-in service at: (+223) 764 09 056.

We resolutely condemn this inhuman crime aiming to destabilise the situation in Mali and to disrupt the ongoing domestic peace settlement. We are offering our condolences to the families and relatives of the deceased.
