Russian ballet dancers very successfully toured Johannesburg on 4-6 July 2014. The ballet stars were brought to South Africa by Russian ballet entrepreneur Mr. R.Nurtdinov and his South African counterpart Mr. D.Badenhorst. South African audience enjoyed the most famous scenes from “Don Quixote”, “Flames of Paris”, “Swan Lake”, “Scheherazade” and “Sleeping Beauty” splendidly performed by Ms.M.Mishina (Bolshoi Ballet, Moscow), Mr.N.Korypaev (Mikhailovsky Theatre, St Petersburg) and Ms.A.Bocharova (Yakobson Theatre, St Petersburg), and likely the best examples of modern ballet choreography presented by Ms.L.Adreeva and Mr.O.Gabyshev (both from Boris Eifman Ballet, St Petersburg). The “Dying Swan” by South African ballerina Ms.K.Phetla was highly interesting for the audience. Russian opera diva Ms.L.Akhmetova who song some well-known opera arias, as well as Russian folk and Soviet songs, received a great ovation. Mr.A.Pisarev, Mr.D.Nedak and Ms.N.Matsak representing the National Ballet (Kiev) demonstrated their throughout mastery. Having completed the performance the dancers emphasized that their art is a “message of peace” and a symbol of unity of fraternal people of Russia and Ukraine. The performers packed the house every evening. The tour was greatly appreciated by South African critics and widely covered in the media.
